The owners of Hernder Estate Wines and Picasso’s Salon had been discussing for some time how they would like to be able to “put something back” into to the communities who had always supported their respective businesses. Hernder’s and Picasso’s, in the hospitality and beauty industries respectively, both provide services to a great number of people in the region, and in providing these services have met many people whose lives have been touched by cancer.
The result of this ongoing exposure to victims, and their families, who had been devastated by this disease, was an increased desire to “give back” to the community. The desperate need for additional funding for the new Regional Walker Family Cancer Centre provided the impetus to launch the Hernder Picasso’s Foundation in 2007. The Walker Family Cancer Centre is the recipient of all the foundation's fundraising initiatives. The Niagara Health System Foundation received a cheque from the HP Foundation for a quarter of a million dollars in 2015. Over the next 2 years, the Hernder Picasso’s Foundation would pledge 1 Million Dollars in total to the NHS Foundation.
